Dr.Timothy Caldwell MA VetMB MRCVS
Tim qualified from Cambridge and after working in Rochdale, Doncaster and Layburn, moved to join the practice of Begg & Whiteford in Strathaven in 1991 to pursue his interests in farm animal practice. He became a Partner in 1992. Since 2002 he has been involved primarily in farm and equine practice. Tim is a member of the British Cattle Veterinary Association, a local Veterinary Inspector (LVI), an official veterinary surgeon (OVS) for meat inspection in abattoirs, qualified for export of all domestic species and products. Tim’s recent CPD courses have covered advanced ultrasonography in bovines, herd health planning and mastitis.
Dr Colin Buchan BVMS, MRCVS
Colin graduated from Glasgow Vet School and after 2 years working in mixed practice returned to Scotland to further his interest in farm work. Colin’s main interests are cattle foot trimming and mastitis prevention. He is an Official Veterinarian for the Animal and Plant Health Agency and a member of the British Cattle Veterinary Association and the Sheep Veterinary Society. Recent CPD courses have accredited Colin as AHDB mobility mentor for their Healthy Hooves programme and a user of the AHDB mastitis plan.
Colin is also studying for the Advanced Veterinary Practitioner Certificate in Cattle Health and Production. Outside of work Colin enjoys spending time with his young family and watching rugby (or any sport!)
Dr Rosie Armstrong BVM&S MRCVS
Rosie joined Avondale having qualified from the University of Edinburgh. Originally from Biggar, she joined the vet school with the sole focus of joining farm animal practice. She has a particular interest in suckler herd management and calf health.
Outside of work, hobbies include; music, endurance running and fell running, biking and going out with the dogs.
Dr Jenna Montgomery BVMS, MRCVS
Jenna graduated with commendation from the University of Glasgow and started working at Avondale 3 days later! Jenna saw practice with the surgery as a student and was delighted to return as a vet. She is from Newton Mearns but has recently moved to Strathaven with her poodle, Basil.
Jenna is interested in all aspects of farm animal work but particularly enjoys sheep work. Outside of work she enjoys going to see live music, hiking with her dog and travelling.

Farm and Equine
Our normal office hours for the farm and equine departments are 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday. The main surgery is open 8am to 7pm Mon-Fri and 8.30am to 12 noon Saturday to collect drugs or make an appointment please telephone 01357 520251.
